Frequently Asked Questions

Is home birth safe?

We only take very low risk, healthy clients, and monitor you to ensure you stay that way. Midwives are trained to handle emergencies, we carry medications to stop hemorrhages, and are fully trained in neonatal resuscitation.

This study discusses the safety of home birth in detail.

How many births do you take a month?

It is very important that we are able to focus on you, so we take a limited number of births per month.

We take no more than 5 clients due per month.

This allows us to ensure that we are accessible to you during your pregnancy, at your birth, and postpartum.

How many midwives will I see?

We have a small team because we want you to know us as much as we want to know you!

Brielle is at each meeting with each client. She typically has an assistant midwife with her.

We also have a second licensed midwife who attends each birth. You will have the opportunity to meet this midwife prior to your birth.

Do you accept Medi-Cal insurance?

We are currently working towards becoming Medi-Cal providers.

East County Midwives believes that home births should be accessible to a wide variety of people.

As part of our commitment to give back to the community, we plan to reserve a limited number of spaces per month for clients using Medi-Cal.

In the mean time- we offer a sliding scale fee for clients who utilize Medi-Cal insurance.

What practice considerations are in place for Covid19?

Midwifery care is concierge medicine, what that means is we want our policies to directly reflect your safety and comfort.

We do not require laboring people to wear masks, and we are continuing to offer water births.

We are happy to discuss our policies in detail and what we can do to make you feel the most safe and comfortable.

Isn’t home birth messy?

Birth can be messy however, we are very good at keeping your space clean. We use cloths to cover, and prepare your space to protect your mattress, furniture, and flooring.

We clean up everything birth related before we leave, we will even get a load of laundry started.

Midwives are like cleaning magicians, you’ll never know the mess was there.
